Philadelphia Rowing Tradition Celebrating 38 Years

October 27, 2007 (Philadelphia, PA)- The 38th Annual Thomas Eakins Head of the Schuylkill Regatta will be held this weekend on October 27, 2007 in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As one of the most prestigious regattas of the fall rowing season, over 15,000 participants and spectators will travel to Philadelphia this October to attend the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta.

Known as the Fall Classic and the largest one-day Regatta in the world, the event attracts rowers of all rowing abilities, from across North America. The range of events allow a number of competitors to participate from High School and College participants to Elite and Olympic level rowers. The athletes battle in a show of speed, skills, and determination on the 2.75 mile course between the Twin Bridges, in East Falls, and Boathouse Row.

“The 2007 Head of the Schuylkill Regatta will have over 1,300 boats race on the Schuylkill River in one day, which is over 6,800 competitors,” Brian Roman, Executive Director said. “We are very proud this event takes place in Philadelphia, there is no better place in the world to watch rowing at its finest.”

In addition to the action on the water, the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta will host the “Picnic and the Park” Benefit Brunch. The 2007 event is open to the public and will raise funds to the many philanthropic activities of the regatta. Patrons can enjoy an elegant buffet brunch on the banks of the Schuylkill and enjoy a great day of races. Each $25 ticket includes a buffet style lunch, prepared by Prince catering.
