Randy... is coming.

Like dumping the water cooler over coach's head after a big football win, age old tradition tells us rowers to scoop up our valiant coxswains and toss them victoriously into the 'drink'. All too often, dangerously cold conditions, or less than appealing water, disable this honored practice. Leaving our thirst to toss, unquenched.

This tradition also begs another question: Can one be the "best" at coxswain tossing? Is there a secret technique that enables one crew to toss further, higher, more elegantly than another? Given that only one crew actually achieves this privilege, there's never really been a way to gauge that...

That is, until now.

Enter Randy. This 5' 5", 120 pound daredevil has agreed to sacrifice his body and become our "Coxswain for the Day", enabling crews from far and wide to once and for all determine indeed who, is the top tosser out there.

A new feature at this year's Thomas Eakins Head of the Schuylkill Regatta, the "Randy Coxswain Toss" will be held from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Schuylkill River Mall, adjacent to the main launching area near the Three Angel statues. For $1 per toss, crews of any number (or individuals, if that's your thing) can test their tossing prowess and cast Randy skyward. Prizes, donated by NK, will be awarded for top teams of four (4) in each the Men's and Women's Masters, Open and High School categories that can toss Randy the furthest. Subsequent prizes for "best landing position" and "lamest, best-effort toss".
