TRAFFIC & PARKING INSTRUCTIONS

Directions. Out-of-town participants who need detailed information on the best road routes into Philadelphia can find them at this link http://www.hosr.org/traveldrx.html. For general orientation to the regatta area, refer to our location map (at left). Although the map indicates the road traffic pattern for regatta day only, it is also a useful visual reference for those arriving earlier.

Bringing in boats. If you are bringing in boats prior to race day, whether by car, van or trailer, you must access Kelly Drive from the north, i.e. by City Avenue (Exit 340A from the Schuylkill Expressway (I-76)) and head southbound on Kelly Drive. Note that Kelly Drive will remain open to all traffic in both directions on Friday, so please use appropriate caution at all times. Only bring your boats to Boathouse Row if you have a prior arrangement with one of the clubs. Absent such arrangements, please do the following.

All boats being transported on top of a car or van, regardless of date or time of arrival, should proceed to the north lot of the Canoe Club launching area, immediately south of Strawberry Mansion Bridge.

Dock locations. If you are bringing in boats on top of a car or van, or by trailer if arriving prior to 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 26, use the Canoe Club launching area, immediately south of Strawberry Mansion Bridge. Trailers using the Canoe Club should only park in the south lot and should be angle parked, stern into the curb. Teams parking a trailer at the Canoe Club prior to Friday, October 29 must bring their towing vehicle back to the Canoe Club on Friday morning, in case their trailer needs to be relocated by our parking staff.

Competitor vehicle ID stickers. The regatta committee issues a limited number of stickers to identify competitors’ vehicles. These stickers are for use by rowers and coaches only, not parents, friends and other non-competitors. On race day, Saturday, October 27, vehicles displaying the sticker inside the windshield on the lower left (driver’s) side may be allowed into the restricted areas on Kelly Drive, provided space is available.

HOSR vehicle ID stickers are not parking permits. They do not, at any time, provide the automatic right to park in the restricted area, or even to park free of charge off site (some off-site parking areas are paid lots, operated by a city contractor.) If you do park anywhere in the restricted area, you MUST continue to display the sticker inside your vehicle’s windshield on the lower left side. Otherwise, your vehicle may be towed.

Parking. Parking along Boathouse Row and the Racecourse will be limited to Competitors and Regatta Staff with permits. Off site parking is available for spectator parking.

Restricted area on race day. From 5:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, the entire area of Kelly Drive between Strawberry Mansion Bridge and the new traffic light at the end of Boathouse Row (next to Lloyd Hall) will be restricted to vehicles with HOSR 2007 competitor ID stickers only. All such vehicles must be driven (or parked, river side only) in a southbound direction only. At all times, the northbound lanes of Kelly Drive must be kept clear of all vehicles, to enable city emergency vehicles to have unrestricted access. Vehicles driven or parked in the northbound lanes will be cited for a major violation. All vehicles must be removed from Kelly Drive by 6:00 p.m.

Diverted traffic. On race day, traffic not admitted to the restricted area will be diverted according to the plan outlined on the location map. This includes all spectator vehicles and all vehicles heading for the off-site parking areas.

Parking arrangements for non-competitors. On race day, parents, friends and spectators will be able to access several off-site parking areas directly from the diversion, which operates in both directions.

Free shuttle bus service. On race day, a six-bus free shuttle service will operate continuously in an anti-clockwise direction throughout the loop depicted on the location map. All regatta participants, competitive and non-competitive, may utilize the shuttle.
